200 Years of History 1821 – 2021
10th – 18th April 2021
The Penal Settlement was established in 1821 under Captain Francis Allman who landed at the Town Green at the top of what is now Clarence Street.60 convicts were sent to establish the settlement, clear the area of trees and begin farming in order to becoming self-sufficient.
200 years later, and Port AdVenture Cruises is proud to play its part in celebration and memorization of the History of our town.
Daily cruises are scheduled featuring live music by the legendary PAT DRUMMOND, is an Australian Singer / Songwriter.
His highly original music crosses the genres of country, folk and rock and roll and his musical career spans four decades.
His well-documented songs about real people and places are drawn from interviews gathered on his erratic tours across Australia and present a composite picture of the country and its people.
In fact, Pat wrote and recorded the song “The Spirit of Endeavor” while sitting at the Lady Nelson Wharf for the then, town crier Gerry Adams, on a visit to Port Macquarie.
A fact which very few locals know is that the late and great Slim Dusty recorded a brilliant song “The Ballad of Port Macquarie”. This song will be featured and sang by Pat on every performance during this 9 day/night celebration.
The Port AdVenture crew will add to the atmosphere and dress in period costume.
Each cruise is of a 2.5hr duration and will include great live music, educational and interesting commentary of the Port Macquarie Bicentenary event and we will also feature the scenery which will change every 5 minutes while cruising the historical Hastings River.
Of course, there is always, a better than average chance of enjoying the Dolphins swim along side and on the bow wash of our vessel.
